Yancoal renews partnership with Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service

10th, August, 2022

Having been a major sponsor of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service since 2019, Yancoal is now proud to announce a renewal of its commitment of $500,000 each year for the next three years to help ensure this critical service remains available to all people across NSW. In addition to this corporate sponsorship, Yancoal employees also support the service directly through a payroll deduction program.

The partnership was recently celebrated with an event at the Belmont base with representatives from Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service and Yancoal to commemorate the funding boost and acknowledge the lifesaving service they provide to the community.

Yancoal’s logo will continue to sit proudly on both sides of the four (4) AW139 Westpac Rescue Helicopters and will be represented throughout the corporate stationery and official website of the Service. The Service operates 24-7 from three bases in Belmont, Tamworth and Lismore and provides invaluable support in times of crisis for 1.5 million people throughout Northern NSW.

Chief Executive Officer of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, Richard Jones OAM used the announcement to recognise the support of Yancoal and its staff throughout NSW.

“We’ve become a unique service and we’re here to support the community every minute of every day. Our work consists of pre-hospital emergency response, search and rescue and inter-hospital transfers and often we’re called to help people when often they’re having the worst day of their life.

“The continuation of Yancoal’s corporate support for another three years will take our partnership to a new level, and help us to deliver a service that is truly leading in many respects, considering the flight capability of the Pilots and Aircrew, along with the incredible skills of the Critical Care Paramedics and Doctors that fly to the scene of every accident.  In addition to Yancoal’s corporate support, its staff have also been donating from their pay for many years and this is a vital element for our emergency response capabilities and continual improvement of our operations.

“One thing that has impressed me about mining is its commitment to continual improvement in safety and Yancoal is demonstrating its leadership in protecting not only its own people but those in our community more broadly,” Mr Jones said.

Yancoal Australia Chief Executive Officer David Moult delighted in extending the partnership with the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.

“We have a significant presence in the Hunter Valley and by continuing our partnership for another three years, the funding reflects our commitment to give back to the people who live, work and play in this fantastic region.

“The past year has been challenging due to weather events and we wanted to provide assurance and certainty that we are committed to this partnership and working together for the benefit of the community.

“The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service plays a critical role in providing safety and support to locals in need and we are very proud to support this great service,” Mr Moult said.

About the Service:

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service was established in 1975 and through community support and fundraising it has become a critical service that operates 24-7 from three bases in Belmont, Tamworth and Lismore. Today the Service delivers aeromedical search, rescue and inter-hospital transfers to care for communities from north of the Hawkesbury River, up to the Queensland border. Along the Pilot and Aircrew Officer, every primary response mission leaves with a dedicated NSW Ambulance Paramedic, NSW Health Doctor and depending on the needs of each patient the team may include specialist nursing professionals.

About Yancoal Australia:

Yancoal is a leading low-cost Australian coal producer in the global seaborne market, producing a mix of premium thermal, semi-soft coking, and PCI coals for export. Since 2004, Yancoal has generated over $10 billion in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) for Australia and now owns, operates, or participates in nine producing coal mines across NSW, Queensland and Western Australia. These operations support around 4,300 full time jobs, and in 2021 generated $667 million in government contributions and created an overall value-added impact of $8.3 billion for the Australian economy. Yancoal has a diverse range of customers and in 2021 we sold our coal to 19 countries. Every year, Yancoal’s thermal coal provides power to millions of households in the Asian region, and our metallurgical coal assists in the production of millions of tonnes of steel. Over coming decades, we believe our coal will continue to play a key role in delivering economic growth and improved quality of life, especially in Asia. Yancoal is committed to the Australian coal industry, and mining coal will remain our core focus in the foreseeable future. To sustain our business well into the future, we are also actively assessing renewable energy projects in Australia, whether to supply electricity to our existing operations or as a beneficial land-use after mining has ended, and opportunities to expand into other minerals and commodities. Yancoal is a public company, listed on both the Australian
Securities Exchange (ASX: YAL) and the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong (HKSE: 3668), and is majority owned by Yankuang Energy Group Company Limited.
