The Rescue Ball, a signature event in the Hunter Region, has raised vital funds for the Service for more than 30 years.
In 1993, the inaugural event was a daytime gathering of over 250 people. The event now boasts an attendance of 1,450 and to accommodate the expanding guest list, the Rescue Ball is now held annually at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre. In the early days the fundraiser was a simple raffle with donated prizes.
Today, sponsorship continues to play a critical role in the success of the event which continues to be one of the largest single fundraisers for the service.
In recent years, unique auction items have also made a splash, like the year’s supply of chicken nuggets which were the most hotly contested item at the 2023 Rescue Ball.
Over the years, the event has evolved dramatically, with consistent improvements made to keep the event fresh and engaging. Collaborating with partners at the NEC, the food and beverage options have been elevated, luxury travel prizes introduced, and auctions have moved online, making it easier for guests to participate.
The Rescue Ball is known for its creative themes, with memorable highlights including a medieval-themed night featuring sword fighters and bagpipes, and the time they made it snow inside the venue.
Despite the ever-growing scale and professionalism of the Rescue Ball, the spirit of community remains strong. The event continues to be about the people who come together to support the cause and have a fantastic night.
Looking ahead to our 2025 Hunter, Upper Hunter and Central Coast Rescue Balls, we hope to celebrate our Golden Anniversary in style alongside the communities who have supported the Service since 1975. Thank you to all the sponsors, volunteers and attendees who have supported the Service’s Rescue Ball for over 30 years.
