For five decades our engineers have played an integral role in ensuring the safety, reliability and efficiency of our aircraft – enabling safe and rapid response in critical moments. Each time an aircraft is needed, there is an expert team of ground personnel who have ensure the aircraft can safely perform to the highest standard.
Careful planning and a strict maintenance schedule are key to safeguarding that each of our AW139s are ready to respond 24/7 to the communities of Northern NSW.
Our operational base engineers work a 7 on 7 off roster, working during the day and on call overnight. These engineers conduct a daily inspection, checking oil levels and rotating components such as rotor blades.
In addition to our base engineers, the Service operates a Heavy Maintenance Facility at Broadmeadow to complete 300, 600, 1,200 and 4-yearly inspection services on the aircraft.
From February 2023 to May 2024, the Engineering Team at our Broadmeadow Heavy Maintenance Facility worked tirelessly to perform four 4-yearly inspections across our fleet. These inspections are the largest maintenance event on an AW139, involving a complete strip down and rebuild of our aircraft. The total duration of all four 4-yearlys totaled at 47 weeks with 9347 manhours.
