Rescue Helicopter Feeling Double the LOVE

11th, October, 2022

How far will you go to save a life? That’s the question the Westpac Rescue Helicopter is asking as part of their month-long Base to Base Challenge this October.

The virtual fundraiser encourages participants to get moving throughout the month, while raising funds for the Rescue Helicopter. Participants can move the distance between any of the four (4) Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service bases, located at Belmont, Broadmeadow, Tamworth and Lismore without leaving their postcode.

Stepping up to the challenge this year are LOVE Realty agents from across Newcastle and the Hunter, who have also come on board as major sponsors.

LOVE Realty Director Stephen Cromarty has a personal motivation for supporting the fundraiser, in the fundraiser in memory of Stephen’s mum Marg, who was assisted by the Service in 1990.

“Because of the Rescue Helicopter I was able to have another 28 years with my mum. She was an enthusiastic supporter and volunteer for the Service that saved her life, and to be able to support an event I know she would have done means a lot to me and the team,” said Mr Cromarty.

This Wednesday LOVE Realty which match all Base to Base donations up to the value of $10,000 meaning participants can double their impact.

Free to enter, the Base to Base challenge invites participates to move the distance between any four of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter bases in Northern NSW, all without leaving their own postcode either as part of a team or as an individual.

Major Events Manager Kylie Farrugia says it’s great seeing so many participants return after the success of the inaugural event in 2021.

“The event really was our Covid miracle in 2021 when all face-to-face fundraising was suspended. This year we are seeing a number of teams and businesses come on board as a way to have fun and debrief during mental health month.”

Participants can still register individually or as a team to complete a mission together. With participants able to set their own km target, it’s not too late to join the challenge.
