Around 5:00am, Friday 28 February, a Westpac #RescueHelicopter was tasked by #NSWAmbulance to a motor vehicle accident at #CastleRock, in the #HunterValley. A man in his 30s was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and the helicopter’s critical care medical team for multiple injuries before being transported to the John Hunter Hospital.

Since 1975, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service has responded to countless emergencies across Northern NSW. Just over ten years ago, Kristyn was involved in a near fatal motor vehicle accident on the M1. She sustained life threatening injuries and was hospitalised for five months.

Kristyn has no memory of the week leading up to the accident, or the two months after it. The condition is known as post-traumatic amnesia and forced Kristyn to re-learn basic life skills including walking, talking and feeding herself.

“The amount of my gratitude really is insurmountable. What an incredible service they provide! And the horrific, heartbreaking moments they must carry with them day to day, job to job – massive, massive respect for each and every one of them, they’re quite simply my heroes!”

A female in her 80’s, suffering a serious medical condition was stabilised by hospital staff and the NSW Ambulance critical care paramedic and a NSW Health doctor from the helicopter’s critical care medical team, before being airlifted to #Newcastle.
