Summer Appeal Helps Service Prepare for Busier Times Ahead

13th, November, 2024

As summer approaches, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service is preparing for what is traditionally one of its busiest times across its service area in Northern NSW, launching its annual Summer Appeal to raise valuable funds for the Service’s operations.

Whether it’s simply getting outdoors and being more active on the weekend or undertaking longer breaks across the school holidays, summer invariably sees people travelling and holidaying throughout Northern NSW’s coastal and regional communities.

“We know from past years that across summer, our aircrews and our helicopter critical care medical teams from NSW Ambulance and NSW Health, at each of our forward operating Bases in Lismore, Tamworth and Belmont, will encounter increased calls for help from those in need,” Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service Chief Executive Officer Steven Underwood said.

“We see people right across Northern NSW out enjoying all that the warmer months have to offer in both regional and coastal areas. With this increased activity, we know that despite the best efforts of everyone to remain safe, we will be called upon to the point of need for people requiring urgent medical assistance.”

“In addition to funding from the NSW Government, the collective funds from the Summer Appeal helps ensure the Service can provide top-tier aeromedical emergency support to communities across Northern NSW and whilst we recognize that donors may be impacted by rising cost-of-living pressures, we deeply appreciate any contribution, no matter the amount,” Mr Underwood concluded.

All donations made will go towards the donors local Base, contributing to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service’s ability to provide world class aeromedical support across the summer months to help save local lives.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service Summer Appeal launches today and donations can be made at rescuehelicopter.com.au/appeal or by calling 1800 155 155.
